Larry was out in the middle of nowhere working at a phone ped. and it just finished pouring down rain, Out of the tall grass came this little kitten and it sat on his boot. Larry was thinking that maybe it was just looking for a dry spot to sit. He put Pepper in his bucket truck and let him dry. He checked with a house nearby to see if it belonged to them and of course, it didn't. He said there were no other houses in sight and he thought the boys might like a cat. Keep in mind that we would love to have a dog for the boys, but we live in town, have no fence, and didn't really want an animal in the house. I have a hard enough time cleaning up after my kids, let alone a pet. Cats haven't really been discussed due to the fact that neither of us are cat fans. However, how could we resist this kitten. We played with Pepper all evening...trying to decide what to do with him. The next day Pepper went to Newton with the boys and I and we grew attached. The photo above was taken the night Larry brought him home and this was where he slept for his first night. Gavin drew him a picture to decorate his box and Maddox fed him Honey Nut Cheerios. Keep in mind that we had no clue how to care for a cat. I called my friend Megan for some tips and we had him all set up the next day with a litter box in the garage (which he uses all the time) and appropriate food for a kitten. If only kids were that easy to train.
This can't be good!
Whee!
I swear that Maddox didn't actually push Pepper. Don't get me wrong...he started to at first, but then Pepper was curious enough to make his own way down the slide.
Later that night...Pepper playing with Larry's toes. I think there are plenty of other toes in the house to play with that I wouldn't have chosen those, but whatever floats his boat.
Every night before bed we bring Pepper in to play.
Gavin making Pepper a bed with our kitchen towels at naptime...(sorry about the blurry photo)
Maddox holding Pepper last week...he's getting huge already.
Our neighbors must not have heard correctly when we announced his name...they sometimes say "Poor Pepper" instead. I'm sure there are moments that he wishes he would have wandered upon another man's boots. Who knows where he would be?

Pepper is one lucky cat.
Yeah, we think so too!
Congrats on your new addition!
Welcome to the world of pets! Pepper is very cute! We are new kitten owners as well. Lee and the kids brought two kittens home from my parent's barn a couple of weeks ago. Dorothy and Saint Thomas. They are orange tiger stripe. We like to watch them play together. Spunky little things! They sure are interesting!
